Times Square is many things — overwhelming, loud, aggressively lit — but subtlety was never Demna's brand anyway. For his resort 2027 collection, Gucci's creative director staged a co-ed runway right in the heart of midtown Manhattan, turning one of New York's most chaotic intersections into a full-blown fashion spectacle. The billboards didn't change. Everything else did.

The casting alone made a statement. According to Vogue, Paris Hilton, Tom Brady, and Cindy Crawford — who closed the show — walked the runway, while the front row read like someone threw a Met Gala, a music festival, and a fashion week party into a blender. Mariah Carey, Playboi Carti, Lil Uzi Vert, Lewis Hamilton, Kim Kardashian, Marc Jacobs, Lindsay Lohan, Shawn Mendes, Steve Lacy, Jenna Lyons, Carine Roitfeld, and Bethann Hardison were among those who made their way to the famously tourist-clogged zip code — an act of dedication that, in New York terms, practically qualifies as a grand gesture.

The Clothes Were the Point, Too

The front row dressed for the moment. Lohan arrived in sleek head-to-toe black leather; Mendes leaned into sharp, classic gray tailoring. It was a study in how Gucci's new language translates off the runway and onto bodies with very different energies — and it held up. When the clothes can carry both a pop star and a former F1 champion without looking like a costume, the collection is doing something right.

Gucci isn't alone in choosing New York for its resort moment — Louis Vuitton is set to show at the Frick on May 20th, making it a notable month for the city's fashion profile. But Demna's decision to plant his flag in Times Square rather than somewhere more expected (read: palatable) feels pointed. The maximalism of that location isn't accidental. It mirrors exactly the kind of go-big-or-go-home energy the designer has been channeling since taking the helm at the house.

When Demna says spectacle, he means it — and Times Square, for one night, actually earned its reputation.
