Katie Holmes Is Back on Team Bob (And Brunette!)
She knows how to work a trend into her downtown cool girl style with a light touch—but when it comes to her hair, Katie Holmes knows the classics prevail.

Reported by Vogue.
Katie Holmes showed up to the Chanel and Tribeca Film Festival luncheon honoring women filmmakers with the only accessory that mattered: a razor-sharp lob and a fresh brunette that meant business. According to Vogue, the color landed at deep espresso with almost-reddish highlights woven in for dimension — a meaningful upgrade from the dark honey blonde balayage she'd briefly experimented with earlier this year. The cut itself hit right at the collarbone, styled pin-straight, no fuss.
Holmes had let her hair grow nearly to her hips before committing to the chop, but she's never been a stranger to it. She first debuted a jaw-length bob with blunt bangs back in 2007 — Dawson's Creek era — and kept some version of a crop for nearly a decade. The clavicle-length lob she's known for more recently had grown out, but this iteration is the crispest it's looked in years. She paired it with the kind of outfit that makes effortlessness look like a skill: white tee, straight-leg gray-blue jeans, Chanel pumps, white bag. The whole thing read less "celebrity at a luncheon" and more "I woke up like this, but make it French."
The Bob Keeps Growing
Holmes wasn't the only one at the Through Her Lens celebration — Chanel's program supporting women and non-binary filmmakers — arriving with a fresh cut. Jodie Foster also wore a soft, shoulder-grazing bob, and the guest list alone (Meg Ryan, Maggie Rogers, Debi Mazar, Myha'la) made the room feel like a quiet takeover. A very chic, very intentional one.
If Holmes has a signature move, it's being an early adopter who actually commits. She doesn't chase trends — she absorbs what works, makes it hers, and sticks with it long enough for the rest of us to catch up. And right now, the bob is having a full-scale cultural moment: Margot Robbie, Penélope Cruz, and Gracie Abrams have all made the cut in 2026. Holmes isn't starting something new here — she's reminding you she never stopped.
If you've been waiting for a sign to book the appointment, consider this it.
