The cultural hangover from Love Story is real — and apparently, neither of its leads wants a cure. Sarah Pidgeon and Paul Anthony Kelly appeared at an FX "For Your Consideration" event in Los Angeles still very much channeling Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy and JFK Jr., the real-life couple whose wardrobe became the show's silent co-star. According to Vogue, the series didn't just tug at hearts — it sent cigarette jeans and tortoiseshell headbands into a cultural frenzy and spiked resale prices for Calvin Klein and Yohji Yamamoto on The RealReal.

Pidgeon, styled by Emma Jade Morrison, wore a draped black off-the-shoulder Yohji Yamamoto dress with an asymmetric sleeve — all CBK restraint and architectural ease. No jewelry. Barely-there black stilettos. Hair in a loose middle part by Bryce Scarlett, with makeup artist Nina Park keeping things modern: diffused eyes, suede-smooth skin, a blurred lip. The whole look landed exactly where it was meant to — elegant without trying too hard, which is, of course, the hardest thing to pull off.

From Press Tour to Awards Season

Since the Love Story press circuit, Pidgeon and Morrison have been quietly building something more interesting than a single-note tribute act. Yes, there have been clean Calvin Klein Collection moments that read as direct CBK homage — but there's been genuine risk-taking too. The posy-pink Balenciaga puffball at the Actors Awards. The toothpaste-toned Chanel. It's a collaboration that's evolving, with the CBK reference as a foundation rather than a ceiling. Kelly, meanwhile, committed fully to JFK Jr.'s heritage prep in Louis Vuitton: a dark navy sports jacket with the collar popped, an unbuttoned cream striped shirt, beige tailored trousers, and brown moccasins. Relaxed, considered, effortlessly old-money.

The FYC event is the opening move in a campaign to land the show — and both leads — Emmy nominations, which means the Love Story fashion moment isn't winding down anytime soon. If anything, the styling will get sharper and the references more deliberate as the season heats up.

When a show's costume DNA is compelling enough to drive real-world resale markets and define two actors' entire public image, that's not costume design — that's fashion history repeating itself, and everyone wants in.
