Teyana Taylor Walks the Red Carpet With Her Two Daughters

There are celebrities who bring their kids to events, and then there is Teyana Taylor, who turns her daughters into co-stars. At the 2026 American Music Awards, the artist, actor, and AMA-nominated force showed up not with a publicist-approved plus-one, but with her two girls — and the resulting red-carpet moment was exactly as iconic as you'd expect.

Taylor's look was the kind of entrance that makes editors reach for their phones. She wore a sculptural purple Balenciaga gown pulled from Pierpaolo Piccioli's Fall 2026 collection — a strapless, fitted bodice layered in chiffon that gave way to a floor-length skirt with a high leg slit, the whole thing finished with a sweeping matching shawl. Structural and soft at once, the dress walked the line between armor and fantasy. Purple, Balenciaga, and a trail on the carpet — consider the bar set.

The Real Style Icons of the Evening

Standing beside her, daughters Iman "Junie" Tayla Shumpert Jr. and Rue Rose Shumpert were not, in any way, afterthoughts. According to Harper's Bazaar, the 10-year-old Junie turned out a denim-on-denim look with a triple belt detail and red boots — a fit that most adults couldn't pull off without it looking like a costume. Rue Rose went softer in a pink dress with matching boots, white sunglasses, and a white cardigan draped over her shoulders. These are not children who were dragged to an event. These are children with wardrobes.

Inside, the night got bigger. Queen Latifah introduced Taylor for a space-inspired performance of "All of Your Heart," describing her as someone with "main-character energy" — which, fair. Latifah reminded the room that Taylor was fresh off her first Oscar nomination and a Golden Globe win for One Battle After Another, and was receiving her first-ever AMA nomination this very night. "Beyond the awards, she is a mother, she is a style icon, she is a force in every lane," Latifah said. The crowd, presumably, had no notes.

What Taylor keeps proving — on red carpets, on stages, in acceptance speeches — is that none of her lanes cancel each other out. The gown, the girls, the performance, the hardware: it all coexists, and it all fits. When the most stylish person in the room also happens to be raising the two most stylish kids in the room, that's not an accident — that's a whole philosophy.
