There are love stories, and then there are love stories that begin with a power outage, a coffee run, and a grandmother who invites the new guy to Hawaii. When actor and producer Maddi Lucas met Connor Oman — co-founder of Austin investment firm Sun Theory — in Pebble Beach during a dark January storm in 2021, the weekend essentially wrote itself into legend. A month in Hawaii with her grandmother Sally. A surprise proposal in Aspen with their dogs on the bed. And, eventually, a wedding designed with the kind of intentionality most people reserve for museum installations.

According to Vogue, the October 4, 2025 ceremony took place at Sally's Pebble Beach home — the only venue that made sense for a couple whose entire origin story is rooted in the Monterey coastline. Every detail was deliberate: green and blue Ginori plates, black Oaxacan chargers, Belgian linens, French flatware, and Noguchi-inspired lighting inside the tent, a nod to the couple's 2023 trip through Japan. A 34-inch Monterey Cypress Bonsai, loaned by a local bonsai club member, anchored the escort table. The wedding date itself was chosen by Lucas's astrologer based on their birth charts. The couple's first dance was to Led Zeppelin's "Thank You," commemorated by a custom neon sign from Austin artist Evan Voyles.

The Dress Had a Backstory Worth Telling

Lucas wore custom Chloé — and not in the way brides typically "wear custom." After spotting a look from creative director Chemena Kamali's spring runway, stylist Jessica Paster connected her with the Paris atelier, and Lucas found herself designing alongside Kamali's team in person. The dress was built around a pair of heirloom earrings: yellow diamonds her grandfather once traded a car for, which her grandmother later had set with pearls and a scallop drop. Those earrings informed the silhouette. Lucas completed the look with Miron Crosby boots — custom-made with her mother in Aspen, a love note tucked inside — vintage Neil Lane diamonds on loan from Paster, and later a white leather jacket from My Dear Tejas. For the nightcap at Bud's Bar, she changed into a vintage Bill Blass black-and-white striped sheer dress. Connor wore a custom white Tom Ford peak lapel tuxedo, with abalone cufflinks Lucas had made from a shell she found on the beach where they said their vows.

The food and drink program was equally considered: cocktail recipes recreated from Connor's Austin bar and restaurant, wedding cake from Lucas's childhood bakery in Los Gatos, calligraphy by artist and gallerist Gino Belassen. Lucas walked down the aisle barefoot to Townes Van Zandt, with their dog Hobbs. Her grandmother hosted the whole thing. Months out, guests are still reportedly using their caviar spoons.

When the aesthetic vision is this specific — and the love story this genuinely good — the clothes almost become a footnote, except they never are.
